Story time with children is special

A time of bonding. A time of connection. And for those you can't be there in person, that connection can still be just a touchstone away.

It's so very simple

Reading connects families and provides a safe haven for children as they learn and grow.

Founder's Story

Growing up in The Bahamas on a small island named Compass Cay and later on Staniel Cay meant that life was a lot simpler when I was a child. The supply boat came once a month and my brother and I went to school by correspondence. Our electricity came from a generator that only ran for part of the day and there was no TV, no recreational radio and definitely no shopping malls. We had a VHF radio to contact passing vessels and other nearby islands but our contact with the outside world was sporadic and limited.

Reading was our one outlet and mostly our contact with the rest of the world. Books shaped me, introduced me to the larger world, transported me to strange and wonderful lands and kept my imagination stoked like nothing else. My brother and I became avid readers and we often took great pleasure reading to each other. And, when she had the time, my mother would put away whatever she was working on and take us on a far away adventure courtesy of whatever she was reading to us that week.

Fast forward to today's crazy world of digital platforms and social media and something becomes very apparent. Reading is still valuable time spent and I'm convinced that it is critical that we encourage the art of reading especially, in young children. Reading connects families and provides a safe haven for children as they learn and grow. But with hectic travel schedules and families scattered across the miles, it's not always easy.

For me, that was when the light bulb came on. Let's use digital technology to make it happen...

Lunaby was born of the need to help families and children stay connected through reading. If children are going to be engulfed in digital media, let's find a way to make that a better experience.

A personal experience, a learning experience, a connected experience.

Enjoy!

How can we help you?

Lunaby, the read me a story app, allows adults to connect with children through the magic of storytelling even when living apart or traveling. It's very simple … an adult can select a book from the app’s Library, read and record that story (complete with sound effects and personal touches) and then tuck it back into the child’s virtual Library for future enjoyment. Lunaby is currently compatible with iPad. Requires iOS 9.3 or later.
Parents or other family members who travel often or live apart from their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews have trouble staying connected to their children especially at bedtime, which is a particularly tough time for kids to be apart from loved ones. It's also a bonding time when business, travel schedules or geographical location separate you from your child.
This app is perfect for kids aged 1 – 6 years who enjoy the precious ritual of story-time with family members.
Lunaby can be downloaded worldwide on iPad devises through the Apple App Store.
Lunaby is currently available in English and we plan to introduce other languages in the future.

To share recorded stories across multiple iPads, you must be logged in with the same iCloud account on both iPads, and have iCloud turned on. These are the same credentials you would use to login to iTunes or The App Store. You must have an internet connection for iCloud to sync across devices. Any changes should be shared across multiple devices in less than a minute. For more help with iCloud, please visit Apple’s Support. Live link to https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204053
On each iPad you’d like to share stories with, go to: 1. Settings 2. iTunes & App Store 3. Enter your Apple ID and password. Once you’ve logged in using your apple ID double check that iCloud is toggled on, and you should be good to go. Note: iCloud must be turned on using the same account for any iPad with which you want to share stories. For more help with iCloud please visit Apple’s Support.
There are two potential settings on your iPad, the volume and a mute switch. Make sure the mute switch beside the volume buttons is off, and the volume is on. For more help, please visit Apple’s Support.
You have to Publish a book for it to appear in the top section of the Library that is useable by everyone on your account. Once you have recorded the pages you would like to record, flip to the end of a book. You can tap the Publish button, to have it available in the Library that anyone on your account can read. You must have an internet connection for iCloud to sync across devices. Any changes should be shared across multiple devices in less than a minute.
Yes, simply choose the book again from the “All Stories” section of the Library, re-record and publish. All changes made to a published book are shared immediately, and do not require the book to be published again.
Yes, this is to ensure that younger children don’t accidentally get into the recording section of Lunaby or accidentally edit a recording.
In addition to sharing recordings across multiple iPads, we also use iCloud to store your password, to ensure that the account is secure and even we don’t have access to it. To reset your password: 1. Delete the Lunaby app. (All new recordings or changes must be synced to iCloud before doing this.) 2. Go to your iCloud Settings by tapping the Settings app, and from there tapping in order: a. General b. Storage & iCloud Usage c. Manage Storage d. Lunaby (You may have to tap “Show all” at the bottom of the list of apps using iCloud) 3. Swipe left on the Password file to delete it. (It’s the one that’s not a book recording.) 4. Reinstall Lunaby from the App Store. Upon reinstalling, you will be prompted to create a new password.
There is a small likelihood of this happening, if the same book is recorded on two different iPads, and they sync at the same time. You can delete a duplicate by going into your Lunaby iCloud settings within the settings. To do this you can: 1. Go to your iCloud Settings by tapping the Settings app, and from there tapping in order: a. General b. Storage & iCloud Usage c. Manage Storage d. Lunaby (You may have to tap “Show all” at the bottom of the list of apps using iCloud) 2. Swipe left on the duplicate book recording you’d like to delete.
